Artspace, Inc, New Haven’s leading contemporary art organization, seeks a temporary, 2 year Development Campaign consultant to assist the organization in capitalizing on its 30th year anniversary. This position offers an excellent opportunity to work across multiple functions, interacting with a wide range of individuals from donors to board members and artistic staff, helping to shape the direction of this significant campaign.

For nearly thirty years, Artspace has been at the forefront of New Haven’s contemporary art scene, taking risks on behalf of local artists to advance their careers while also quickening the pulse of our community. Touchstone programs like our Summer Apprenticeship for New Haven Public School students, our City-Wide Open Studios festival, and our Flatfile which brings needed attention to exceptional works on paper, together provide artists with unparalleled access to audiences, space, resources, and to one another. In 2016/2017, Artspace will celebrate its 30th anniversary with a series of exhibitions, programs, and a campaign to achieve sustainable excellence entitled “Three Decades of Change”.

Position Description: The Development Campaign consultant (DCC) will build out the platform and infrastructure to capture, organize, stay in touch with, and improve the stewardship of campaign prospects, donors and alumni artists. The DCC will also tailor our newly installed Sales Force software to efficiently serve the needs of our small staff.  Working with our programmer, the DCC will oversee the tailoring of existing templates– both digital and print—to allow for our entire staff’s ease of messaging and outreach, and to ensure that constituents are continuously appraised of campaign progress.

The consultant will also support the Executive Director in the areas of Board liaison S/he will provide fundraising support to Board members and other 30th anniversary committee members, and produce reports to donors and leadership to highlight progress towards our goals.  The DCC provides occasional grant research to make donor records as comprehensive as possible.   At the culmination of the project, the DCC will train Artspace’s staff to carry forward the day-to-day aspects of donor relations.

Communications Responsibilities (about 30% of the time):

* Gather information from staff and write/prepare press releases, e-appeals, campaign updates, and collateral for inclusion in grant materials. Team up with staff to distribute these.

*Use Mail Merge to issue donor acknowledgments and letters.

*Create event flyers and post invitations on Facebook.

*Outreach/Community Relations: Respond to and delegate incoming board and donor queries, make calls and stay in touch with Campaign participants.

*Website: Create fresh content for our Support/Donate page and keep it up to date with upcoming events and special giving opportunities (Amazon Smile, greaterGive, Planned Giving, matching gifts etc).

* Work with the staff to implement a gift stewardship strategy for donors.

Database Responsibilities (about 40% of time)

*Manage Artspace’s donor/membership database, including input of data/records, gifts processing, reports, etc.  Generate appropriate receipts and acknowledgements. Work with our bookkeeper to ensure proper reporting.

*Import information and populate Salesforce fields from disparate sources, integrating this with our existing MailChimp, Quickbooks, and e-commerce portals.

*Develop and administers processes, systems, and timelines for maintaining all membership and annual fund appeal solicitation mail and email communications, including acquisitions, renewals, upgrades, invitations, and general communications.

*Shape and tailor the Salesforce platform to serve Artspace’s needs, including developing templates, and train the staff to use the system and track campaign progress.

*Work with Executive Director and Campaign co-Chairs to establish an overall strategy and the annual calendar of member events and programs

*Work with Director of Communications and Gallery Director to establish a strategy for reaching out to art world press contacts about upcoming Campaign-related exhibitions and programs.

Event Responsibilities (about 30% of time).

*Help organize donor cultivation and recognition events.

*Act as an on-site manager during campaign fundraising events, overseeing activities, staff, vendors, and volunteers to ensure satisfaction of participants, and resolutions of problems.

*Find creative ways to appropriately thank and recognize corporate and foundation donors with a coordinated approach to acknowledgement and recognition at all levels.

Qualifications:  Applicants must possess Bachelor’s Degree (Art History, Museum or Media Studies, Graphic Design, Journalism, or Business preferred), and at least 5 years of experience in Non-Profit Development. Must have experience (2+ years preferred) with SalesForce and be familiar with other Customer Management databases, as well as Microsoft Office (Office Mail Merge and Excel especially), Adobe Creative Suite and basic HTML. Fluency with social media. Experience with special events management (fundraising, production, and logistics) desirable. Able to participate in evening and weekend events as needed. Arts & Culture background (especially contemporary art) desirable. Position requires attention to detail, strong organizational, communication, writing, and computer skills. Applicant must be able to show personal initiative as well as be able to work collaboratively as a member of a team and must enjoy working in an informal, creative and fast-paced environment. Project Salary commensurate with experience. Location is both at Artspace New Haven and from your home office/offsite.
